Mission

The mission of CALPRO is to foster continuous program improvement through a comprehensive, statewide approach to high-quality professional development for the full range of adult education and literacy providers.

Goal

The ultimate goal of CALPRO in providing professional development opportunities for adult educators is to enhance student learning gains and to help adult learners meet their goals as productive workers, family and community members, and lifelong learners.

CALPRO Overarching Objectives

To accomplish the above goal, CALPRO has set the following overarching objectives:

  • To plan and provide high quality professional development in collaboration with CDE, other State Leadership Projects, and local service providers;
  • To encourage and support the development learning communities for site-based professional development services; and
  • To improve the quality of instruction delivered to adult learners and, ultimately, to enhance learner outcomes.

CALPRO Contract Objectives for 2007-2010

The CDE has contracted with AIR/CALPRO for 2007-2010 to perform the following tasks:

  • Expand capacity for supporting local agencies in developing and implementing site-based continuous improvement;
  • Lead the California Adult Education Research-to-Practice Initiative, including developing and publishing research summaries and digests on various topics of interest to the adult education community and disseminating bibliographies, fact sheets, and current information about adult education professional development activities and resources, both statewide and nationally.
  • Support and encourage the development of exemplary leaders and programs, including designing the annual (two-year) Adult Education Leadership Institute and coordinating the application and award process for the Adult Education Programs of Excellence.
  • Conduct, analyze, and use the results of an annual statewide field-based professional development needs assessment.
  • Design and deliver professional development institutes and workshops on specific content and offer alternative deliveries, such as online courses and Webinars.
  • Work collaboratively with the State Leadership Projects to address the technology and accountability training needs of the field.
  • Manage all business activity related to the professional development contract.
  • Arrange for publicity, registration, and other logistics for workshops or meetings related to this project.
