Statement from the Health and Safety Program Specialist
“When the Health and Safety Program initiated its Programs of Excellence process in 2003, the staff created a list of Expected Program Learning Results (EPLRs) and a student survey to track how successfully the program was reaching its desired results. Staff found that the shared experience of developing the EPLRs, creating the survey, and analyzing the survey responses became a catalyst that united a diverse group of health, fitness, and safety staff into a cohesive and collegial working group. Through this process, communication, as reported by the instructors, has improved, and staff considers it to be a key strength of the program. The survey data collected every nine months provides important information to teachers that helps them continue to provide exemplary curriculum. The health field is ever changing, and students have become more engaged in managing their own health. Santa Clara Adult Education students appreciate the professional and knowledgeable instructors who help them develop the skills they need to make informed decisions about their health and safety. Students continue to confirm their satisfaction with the program through the survey process. The most recent survey, in April 2007, shows that 100 percent of the students agree or strongly agree with the statement, I am satisfied with this class.”
