Organizing and Managing ABE Instruction, Session 2. Classroom Management Strategies

This workshop provides an overview of evidence-based practice for identifying adult learners’ skills based on assessment and instructional strategies for managing a multilevel ABE class. Building upon Session 1, in which a series of formal and informal assessments were introduced, modeled, and implemented by participants, Session 2 provides extensive management strategies for administering assessments to new students during the first class section.

This workshop also allows participants to practice analyzing the specific assessment results of the student cases presented in Session 1. Similarly, participants practice aligning specific assignment sheets which address the specific literacy, numeracy, and writing needs of the ABE student profile cases as identified through assessment results. Finally, this workshop presents a new ABE Resource Guide of print-based and internet materials detailing a range of available resources for instructors to use with their ABE learners.
